The Kaplans share a deep commitment to leadership, civic engagement, and community wellbeing. Together, they have built impactful careers and a life of service dedicated to both the Jewish and greater Cleveland communities.
Ira Kaplan has long been recognized for his dynamic leadership in the legal field. As Executive Chairman of Benesch and a member of its Executive Committee, he is a trusted advisor known for his strategic insight and practical problem-solving. In his practice, he counsels companies at various stages of growth, helping them navigate opportunities for expansion and long-term success.
Amy Kaplan recently retired after a distinguished 17-year career with the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, where she served as Vice President of External Affairs and Director of Government Relations. In this role, she was a leading advocate on behalf of the Cleveland Jewish community, working closely with federal and state officials to shape public policy on a wide range of issues impacting the Federation and its constituents.
Both Amy and Ira are deeply involved in volunteerism and civic life. Ira currently serves as a board member and is a former Vice Chair of United Way of Greater Cleveland, and holds board positions with the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and Downtown Cleveland Alliance. He is the Board Chair of the Mt. Sinai Health Foundation, where he has led the strategic distribution of over $8 million annually to bolster public health in both the Jewish and general communities, while also supporting critical medical education and research initiatives. His past leadership includes chairing the boards of organizations such as the Cleveland Leadership Center, Engage Cleveland, Bellefaire JCB, the Wingspan Care Group, Council Gardens, and Menorah Park Center for Senior Living.
Amy continues to contribute her voice and leadership as a board member and officer for numerous nonprofit organizations. Her current roles include serving on the boards of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, the Cleveland State University Foundation, the Jewish Democratic Council of America, Congregation Mishkan Or (successor to The Temple-Tifereth Israel), and Facing History and Ourselves Cleveland Advisory Board.
The Kaplans are the proud parents of three grown children and the grandparents of three adorable granddaughters, who continue to inspire their commitment to building a better future for generations to come.
